Meet Delilah and Daisy, two lovely cockapoos with a lot of energy and excitement for the world!

These little dogs pull like steam trains on the lead, making walks a challenge and even causing shoulder pain. Daisy also reacts to other dogs, which winds up Delilah, leading to even more excitement and frustration. This overexcitement built up so much that they couldn't think properly while out, leading to frustration for their owners too.
Today, we started the counter-conditioning process around other dogs and focused on calming them down outside. To help them learn to walk nicely on the lead, we split them up and walked them individually. We spent about 15 minutes with each dog on lead walking, and by the end, both were doing beautiful loose leash walking around the drive, into the street and up the street.
Each dog required a different approach. Delilah had a lot of drive but no focus on her owner, so we used the "drunk walking" technique to build her focus and get her moving with her owner while staying focused. Daisy, on the other hand, responded well to figure 8 walking, which calmed her down and allowed her to focus on her owner very easily.
Both Delilah and Daisy did fantastic today. They are lovely dogs, and with continued training, they are going to do very well.
