Meg is a beautiful little Border Collie from Catterick, who has a lot of 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲. She is constantly on the go, wants to herd, wants to 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰, wants to chase birds, and wants to see other dogs, and has been known to nip at some people.
Meg was a fantastic dog to train. She was very focused during her session, and she picked up loose leash walking 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆.
We're mainly working on the traffic issue with Meg because she is completely 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘁. She 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀, 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰, and is clearly quite stressed by this.
We have two steps for this. We want to 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which is where we pair the sight of traffic with 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. We want to do this from a distance.
At the same time, we also want to teach Meg an alternative behaviour. We want to calm her down on the lead and have some 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Eventually, what will happen is that Meg will be 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗴𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝘀𝗵𝗲'𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿 rather than lunge at the car.
Meg and her owner are 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀. They work really hard together, and their results will be fantastic.
