Originally we were called in as River can bark and try to bite people and barking other dogs. For River especially with people she found it harder unless the person was on her level so she didn't have to look up, this became a learned behaviour because of a previous medical condition.
We have done some work Originally on getting her used to disengaging from people. Yesterday we put it more into practice and took her out to get her used to seeing people passing without reacting.
We taught her a "Go sniff" to stop her from fixating on people passing and instead focus on her mum.
We also taught River a look at me for bringing her to the side and sitting to look at her owner (sitting looking up isn't as strenuous on her back compared to standing and looking up. We also looked at a "This way" to get her used to continuing to walk past people
By teaching these 3 cues we have done some set ups and managed to half the distance we originally started from. That's including the extra dogs and people that came out of nowhere and she handled it a lot better than at the start of the session
Well done River & Co!
