Rolo had his second session today. Rolo has been struggling to focus around all manner of distractions, from sniffs and smells to rabbits and deer. In addition, Rolo has some underlying anxiety which means he is keen to investigate things and shows some conflicting motivations around people and dogs. This has made walks unpleasant for him and his guardians.

Today we looked at refining the foundational skills, what to do when recall fails, and introduced a harness and double-ended lead to making handling easier for his owner, as well as letting Rolo know when to focus and when to sniff. Rolo can be an independent chap so we've introduced some games his owner can play at home to increase their working relationship.

Finally, we added a stationary dog to the environment to begin teaching appropriate, alternative behaviours, and increasing his owners' confidence when walking Rolo. In the coming sessions, we'll have the distraction dog moving, building up to real-life setups.

Rolo has made great progress so far and can't wait to see how he does over the coming weeks.
