Back to see Poppy the Nervous Jackahuahua

Updated: Sep 22, 2021

Originally, Poppy and her guardian joined and completed our interactive puppy course during the lockdown.

Her guardian then contacted us to say Poppy was very nervous outside, around people, traffic, dogs, and wouldn’t take treats either.

We originally went to see Poppy and she was overwhelmed by the outside world. To get onto walks, she needed to walk along the main road out the front of her house.

As she was scared of traffic, this meant that every walk was off to a bad start.

We changed some things around and allowed her time to decompress, enjoy her walks more and take control over her choices and environment without pushing her over the threshold or causing her to be scared.

Today we went back to see how she was

doing.

We were able to walk around a busy Tesco supermarket car park past a ton of traffic and around a lot of people and work with her next to the entrance.

Depending on how she is approached by people (passing in the street) she can get barky, so we worked on this using the CARE protocol (http://careforreactivedogs.com) and taught her some loose leash walking to take some attention away from her surroundings.

Poppy has gone from being terrified of the outside world to a fairly confident pup and it’s great to see!

Once these few little niggles are sorted, she will be a perfect fit for society

Well done Poppy and Co
