Max the lead aggressive Jack Russell

Updated: Aug 7, 2021

Max is struggling with other dogs, even when they are quite far away. Max would bark and lunge at other dogs and get over-excited by people.

When we got Max out, it very quickly became obvious that he was completely overstimulated by the environment. This meant that when another dog (that he is nervous of) came into the picture, he was very quick to react without being able to process any information. This lead to his reactivity, as he was already wound up and the slightest added stress would tip him over the edge.

The answer was, slow him down, teach him a nice, slow, and calm heel and transfer his focus onto his owners.

We spent a bit of time doing this, and had him super calm and super focused, a dog even went by at the top of the street (where he would usually react) and he didn’t bat an eyelid.

There’s still plenty of work to do with Max, but in less than an hour, we showed how happy, calm, and focused he can actually be outside! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks 🤩

Well done Max and co 😁
