Otis the ‘naughty’ Red Fox Labrador Pup

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

Recently, we have been to see Otis the 4.5-month-old lab puppy for some dog training sessions in Morpeth, Northumberland.

Otis’s family was struggling to get a handle on some of his ‘naughty’ behaviors and struggling to create a bond with him and get their training moving.

This could have really affected his future, as he was already starting to show some anxiety outside not wanting to walk and explore new areas. Usually, this is caused by overwhelming when we first take our puppies out. The world is brand new to them so they need time to take it all in, learn what is a threat and what isn't and learn what they need to take notice of and what they can ignore.

We played some games outside and taught him to check-in and follow the person holding the lead, the basics of loose leash walking, and recall.

Otis also had some issues with the family cats where he would chase them and pester them, so we started counter conditioned Otis to them and also showed how some basic cat training could really help too, as well as management in place.

Obviously, we are limited to what we can

do for this at the moment, so we used stuffed toys to teach Otis the concept for his owners to take indoors with the cats.

Otis is now enrolled on our lockdown special puppy class and doing awesome 😍

Well done everyone 😁
