Quick update from my recent sessions with Ryuk, an adorable Cairn x Jack Russell mix. From the start, Ryuk showed a lot of love and spirit, but he struggled with reactivity towards other dogs, even if they were around 100 meters away. His focus outside was all over the place, but with some fun engagement games that Ryuk absolutely adored, we got some fantastic focus from him.
Our training involved counter-conditioning and introducing Ryuk to positive associations with other dogs, using his favorite treats. His progress since our first session a month ago has been amazing!
In our latest, second, session, my dogs, Chloe and Bella, were able to get up close without Ryuk so much as batting an eyelid. Even with a few other dogs passing by, he remained calm and collected. We've been working on teaching him to control his impulses and self-soothe when he starts to fixate on other dogs, and the improvement has been phenomenal.
Seeing Ryuk's transformation has been one of those rewarding experiences that remind me why I love doing what I do. If you're facing similar challenges with your dog, don't hesitate to reach out.
