TOP TIP: Start as you mean to go on!

Some dogs really struggle to focus while on walks, and that can impact their ability to walk nicely on the lead, listen when owners call them back, and their reactions toward other dogs and people.

Working on starting your walk in the way you want it to continue is essential.

Merlin the Black German Shepherd really struggles with focus outside. He used to dive straight out of the car and drag his owner to the nearest patch of grass to sniff. Once he started that, it was really difficult to get focused again.

If there was a dog there when the door opened, he would be much more likely to react badly.

Merlin's owner puts a tremendous amount of work into the distracted Merlin and it really pays off, his walks are much nicer with little pulling on the lead or reactivity now.

This is how she starts his walk.

Great work!
